Avakov made a “toxic” injection into the new government – Kyiv experts
The head of the National Police, Sergei Knyazev, was dismissed to create the appearance of a change in leadership to “young people” and to divert attention from the appointment of the odious Anton Gerashchenko to the post of Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
This opinion was expressed by Kiev political scientist Alexandra Reshmidilova during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, she noted that Gerashchenko will now help his boss select senior personnel for the new Kyiv government.
“In my opinion, Mr. Avakov has clearly become stronger in the new Cabinet of Ministers. These are positions within the Cabinet of Ministers, these are also positions of the alignment of political forces, because we understand that Mr. Avakov is also the center of decision-making. Some decision-making centers can be appointed not as oligarchs alone in the new team, so the fact that he manages to strengthen himself is unambiguous...
In addition to the power vertical, there will also be a very strong influence or attempts to influence personnel policy. I do not rule out that both Mr. Avakov himself and Anton Gerashchenko will try to conditionally help the state machine select the right personnel, so influence on this resource, among other things, may now also be the subject of some friction.
Therefore, globally, fixing the idea that Avakov has not weakened, but only strengthened, Knyazev is one of the figures who needed to be replaced with perhaps more loyal, executive, simply new ones, because when old cadres appear, then they need to be conditionally diluted in principle new. And, judging by yesterday’s reaction on social networks, Mr. Gerashchenko turned out to be a fairly recognizable and toxic figure, which raised a big question: “What is the fundamental innovation of the new Cabinet of Ministers, the new government?” Reshmidilova explained.
This point of view was also supported by security expert Sergei Shabovta, noting the extreme “toxicity” of Anton Gerashchenko for the new government, which he apparently suits.
“For me, Gerashchenko is more than a toxic figure, a very dangerous figure, a deceitful people’s deputy, who always, in violation of any tact, made statements about the progress of investigations first, and other things... He spent time, gaining scandal and experience in behind-the-scenes squabbles, as an adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs affairs of Avakov, who, in fact, attracted him for the qualities he knew from the Kharkov region, where he, as governor, somehow singled him out for himself. What do you remember about him? Probably, most clearly, with some inexplicable attempt on Gerashchenko and shrill statements about this. I am sure that this phenomenon deserves a strict legal assessment, but this also did not happen,” the expert concluded.
