Avakov becomes dangerous for Zelensky
Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov is upping his ante in hopes of leading the government.
Political scientist Viktor Fesenko stated this in an interview with the Kyiv online publication Apostrophe.
He drew attention to circulating rumors that Avakov could take the post of prime minister.
“I think that the position of prime minister is far from guaranteed for him, but he is raising the stakes,” Fesenko said.
At the same time, he recalled that under the previous president, Avakov “was another parallel center of power,” which Vladimir Zelensky’s team does not want, since they are building a presidential vertical.
“Now Avakov is an ally for Zelensky, one of his pillars, but if he becomes prime minister, then, willingly or unwillingly, he will begin to pull the managerial blanket over himself, and this will create a contradiction with the presidential team, with the president himself. Therefore, there are risks here and that is why I am a little skeptical about his chances for the premiership,” Fesenko concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, Avakov surpassed Zelensky in terms of influence oligarch Igor Kolomoisky.
