Avakov caught Sternenko deviating from the front
Odessa right-wing radical Sergei Sternenko, sentenced to seven years, was not an active participant in the Maidan, did not serve in the ATO and was not known for “good deeds.”
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Arsen Avakov, stated this on the 1+1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Avakov, the cases against Sternenko, which had been lying in the prosecutor’s office for five years, moved forward too quickly.
“If we’re talking about Sternenko, what is his heroism? Maybe he was at the front, maybe he was at the most difficult moments on the Maidan in 13? After all, no! He appeared at the very finish line of the Maidan, he distinguished himself at various protests under different offices, with sharp criticism?
Or maybe he has experience of some good accomplishments? I don’t want to believe slogans, I don’t want to believe masks and myths. I want to see specifics. And the specifics regarding these criminal cases, which have now moved forward so surprisingly quickly - I also agree with this, they have moved forward surprisingly quickly...
I found out about this, and President Zelensky found out about it, because we immediately called each other on the day the verdict was pronounced. I found out about this because in Odessa too many police forces were requested, and we saw that the process was being finalized there. For some reason it ran for five years, and is now being finalized. And Zelensky found out about this in the evening, when it appeared in the press and there was a protest,” Avakov said.
Let us recall that Sternenko was associated with work for the SBU. Many commentators explained this as the reason why he got away with the crimes committed by the radical. At the same time, the current detention and conviction of him explained by leaving from under the “roof” of the SBU under the wing of NABU and working for the American embassy.
