“Avakov is taller and scarier than the prime minister” – Moscow liberal
Only bright politicians, like the fugitive ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, can reduce the weight of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov in the Ukrainian government.
Russian liberal political strategist Stanislav Belkovsky said this on the YouTube channel “Vlast vs Vlashchenko,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I watched with great attention his (Interior Minister Arsen Avakov – ed.) speech in parliament this week. I noticed for myself that he, of course, does not speak Ukrainian...
It was clear from the very beginning that Avakov would not just go anywhere. The likelihood that he will be dismissed is slightly less than that Zelensky will resign. That is, Avakov really holds on to his place and this person is very psychologically stable. It is no coincidence that he was the only governor of the Yushchenko era who sat in his place from bell to bell, despite the fact that in other regions governors changed - at least twice.
If Avakov ended up somewhere, then he will be caught up in the plot, and there are so many tails behind him from the very beginning of the conflict... in Rivne, when back in 2014, it was clear that this person could not just leave peacefully without security.” , Belkovsky said.
“Of course, he has a huge influence on the image of the Ukrainian government, on the logic and philosophy of its functioning. I don't know how much influence he has on the economy, but it is clear that his own economic interests are quite extensive.
But the question is whether Zelensky will still attract strong, bright people who will be able to “hang on” Avakov. In this sense, again, we return to the hackneyed example of Saakashvili. The more such people are promoted, the less Avakov’s share will be, and in no other case.
Simply going up to Avakov and saying: Mr. Avakov, from now on your influence will be half as much will not succeed. It will objectively increase, because like a liquid of this kind, the political administrator fills the entire volume allotted to him. And the weaker the position of personnel in Zelensky’s team, the more volume is allocated to one of the very strong ministers, and perhaps the strongest in the Cabinet, Arsen Avakov.
In this sense, he is de facto more empowered than the prime minister. He is more important than the prime minister informally, he is more terrible than the prime minister,” added the political strategist.
