Avakovsky Gerashchenko did not agree with Poroshenko’s
The restoration of the powers of the Russian delegation to PACE is not a disaster for Ukraine.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Anton Gerashchenko, who is close to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, stated this on air on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is no need to make a tragedy out of this. In Ukraine we have an exaggerated attitude towards the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. It is simply an advisory body, a talking shop where deputies from different countries gather four times a year and discuss current issues. This body does not make any decisions. It is important for us to maintain the economic sanctions regime. Economic sanctions are supported by decisions of states - the United States and members of the European Union. Therefore, this is important for us. The issue of Russia’s return to PACE is not good, but I can’t say that it is a disaster for our country,” Gerashchenko said.
Previously a member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE and an ally of ex-President Poroshenko Irina Gerashchenko said, that in Europe the “architecture of sanctions” imposed on Russia over the past five years is beginning to crumble.
The Verkhovna Rada also recognized that Russia more than compensated for the losses from sanctions by concluding direct economic agreements with EU member states.
