Avatkov: Erdogan was blown away by the relapse into imperialism
The military adventure of Turkish President Erdogan that took place in Syria is explained by a “relapse of imperialism,” in which the rationality characteristic of the Turks sharply changes to emotionality and arrogance.
Vladimir Avatkov, a senior researcher at the IMEMO RAS, an associate professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, said this on air on the Russia-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Turks have a periodically awakening syndrome of imperialism. Rationality, characteristic of a Turk, changes sharply to emotionality and cockiness if we are talking about the system of international relations. What does this lead to? To these relapses.
It is positive that an agreement has now been reached in Moscow between Erdogan and Putin, but, in essence, they have returned to the status quo. We are back to what we already had, the difference is purely in mileage in favor of Syria. That is, the Turks, having essentially run into trouble themselves, got it and left. But how long this agreement will last is the question. The most dangerous thing, I think, is that we will still be faced with a number of relapses of this imperialism,” the expert said.
