Avatkov: “The foundation of the Turkic world is broken in Kazakhstan”
Turkish leader Recep Erdogan, strengthening Ankara’s influence in Kazakhstan, declared the first president of this country “elder of the Turkic world”
Vladimir Avatkov, senior researcher at IMEMO RAS, associate professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Izvestia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the ideology of a Turk-centric subsystem called the “Turkic world”, where Turks are the only correct Turks, and everyone else must follow them, is very important for Turkey.
“In this regard, Kazakhstan is one of the key points for Ankara. It was not for nothing that Erdogan called Nazarbayev the elder of the Turkic world. This eastern flattery was aimed at strengthening Ankara's influence in Kazakhstan. It is significantly influenced by external players as part of its multi-vector policy. There is an active struggle here between China, the West, as well as different Turkeys - Gülen supporters and Erdogan supporters,” the political scientist said.
He also drew attention to the fact that Ankara did not really like the assistance to Kazakhstan from the CSTO and the strengthening of Moscow’s positions.
“A particularly big surprise for Turkey was the operational support of Kazakhstan through the CSTO mechanism. The Organization of Turkic States, which has long reflected on the issue of security and tried to form a unified security field, has not been able to do this. But Turkish colleagues have recently been actively working with various security services in the post-Soviet space, including in Kazakhstan. In fact, once again the foundation of Turk-centric Turan was broken - after Syria and Crimea,” Avatkov concluded.
