Donetsk, July 31 (Navigator, Mikhail Chaliapin) - They just arrived, literally a few minutes ago. Confused, destitute, shocked by what is happening. All of them are residents of Shakhtersk, a small town in the Donbass that has become the scene of bloody battles.

Residential buildings are being hit with direct fire. Aviation, GRAD multiple launch rocket systems and howitzer artillery are used. The casualties among the civilian population are colossal. Children, old people and women sit in basements for days, afraid to go outside.
“We only took what we had time for: some clothes and documents. There was no money left, some brought with them 50, some 70 hryvnia. All the money was spent on food, and food prices became very expensive. Previously, a loaf of bread cost 5 hryvnia, but in recent days they started selling us ten hryvnia, and there was a kilometer-long line for it, they decided to profit from us. The militia simply took away their bread and gave it to us, the residents, for free. We don’t know what to do now, but at least we’ll gather our thoughts,” said one of the refugees.
“There are a lot of people left there. The old people are mostly pensioners and disabled people; they barely have time to reach the bomb shelters. In our block there are only five-story buildings and high-rise buildings. Not a single house remains intact. Where the roof is no longer there, where balconies throughout the house have been blown away, and in every house there are huge holes from shells. For two days in a row, aircraft and tanks fired at us, and they hit our houses with mortars. Our militias literally carried us onto buses in their arms. My father is disabled, they dragged him in their arms, then ran under fire and carried the stroller onto the bus. They gave me a cartridge as a souvenir. They say, take it, we’ll probably die, so at least the memory of us will remain.”
