Kolomoisky's airline stops flights to Kazakhstan - flying around Russia is unprofitable
As part of optimizing its winter schedule, Ukraine International Airlines is suspending direct flights from Kyiv to Astana until summer navigation in 2019, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the airline's press service.
“The cost of aviation fuel in October 2018 was 40,3% higher than in 2017. Ukrainian carriers also incur unproductive costs for flying over the airspace of the Russian Federation, and demand for direct transportation from Ukraine and Europe to Astana decreases in winter. All these factors increase the cost of transportation,” the report says.
UIA passengers will be able to take advantage of direct non-stop flights between the capitals of Ukraine and Kazakhstan until December 3 of this year.
After December 3, it will be possible to fly from Kyiv to Astana with transfers to flights of partner airlines, information about which will be made public later.
Direct flights between Kiev and Astana will resume on April 29, 2019.
Passengers who purchased tickets for direct flights will be able to either reissue them to alternative routes or request a refund, the company noted.
