The automotive industry of Ukraine is in a severe crisis
Car production in Ukraine dropped by 80% over the year due to low demand. This was stated by Sergei Borovik, Marketing Director of the AIS group of companies.

According to him, although analysts expected that at least 80 thousand cars would be sold in the country, sales fell fourfold in the first quarter alone. The market for new cars will be about 40 thousand units, despite the fact that a couple of years ago it was about 200 thousand, and in 2008 – 600 thousand.
No improvements are expected in the near future - even if Ukraine's GDP begins to grow by at least 1-2% per year, sales of economy-class cars will grow by no more than 20%.
The instability of the hryvnia and the depreciation of the exchange rate made the purchase of imported cars unaffordable for many, so car imports also decreased. “Grey” imports “bite off” about 60% of the official market, and mainly old cars are imported into Ukraine; A significant share of “gray” imports is occupied by cars from Europe with a useful life of 6-7 years.
According to Sergei Borovik, this, among other things, causes an increase in the number of accidents.
In general, the vehicle fleet has almost ceased to be renewed; the average age of a car has grown to 21 years, although five years ago this figure was 18 years, which was also considered a catastrophic indicator.
The main part of the fleet consists of cars older than 11 years. Thus, due to the fact that Ukrainians do not have money for new cars, they have to drive worn-out cars, which pose a danger to both passengers and pedestrians.
