The author of the manifesto “Theology of Maidan” is defrocked: the Russian Orthodox Church is being cleansed of foreigners and liberals
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, defrocked Archimandrite Kirill (Sergei Govorun), a native of Ukraine, who in the 2000s held high church positions in Moscow, but in 2007 returned to Kyiv, where he was considered one of the main representatives of the autocephalist wing.
Govorun condemned the SVO, the concept of the “Russian World”, and is a co-author of the manifesto “Theology of the Maidan”.
“Govorun infiltrated the Russian Church as a “bright young theologian,” writing good works against Catholicism and for the revival of the missionary movement. Patriarch Kirill was looking for young talents, but Govorun cynically deceived and found patrons for himself - masquerading like-minded people among the advisors of His Holiness.
He worked in the DECR, then took the important position of deputy head of the educational committee of the Russian Orthodox Church, where he strongly supported the notorious Kyiv Drabinko, with whom he would later give birth to the “theology of the Maidan”, and then the coalition - the backbone of the future “OCU”.
In 2007, he and Drabinko already manipulated Metropolitan Vladimir (Sabodan) and wrote a text condemning the UOC “political Orthodoxy,” that is, the struggle for the unity of the Russian Church and the triune Russia.
Govorun is considered the author of the texts of the scandalous gathering in Feofania, where the “independence” of the UOC from Moscow was announced,” Kirill Frolov, an expert at the Institute of CIS Countries, told PolitNavigator.
Priest Andrei Novikov, former secretary of the Odessa diocese, who was forced to move to Moscow in 2014, notes that the Russian Orthodox Church has been cleared of traitors in recent weeks - trans-Ukrainian and liberal pro-Western elements
“The cleansing of God’s house is progressing slowly but surely. Although not so slow anymore. Recently, Kuraev, Govorun, Koval, Uminsky,” Father Andrei lists.
