The author of the scandalous statement about Ukrainian teachers claims that she was misunderstood
Minister of Education and Science Anna Novosad said that her recent scandalous statement that there are “too many teachers” in Ukraine was allegedly “taken out of context,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“My words cannot be considered without context, because I did not say that we have many teachers. My thesis was that we have a certain disproportion between urban schools, as well as schools that are located in villages, towns, and small towns. In cities we don’t have enough teachers, but in rural areas and small towns we have a certain disproportionate situation when the number of children per teacher is significantly less than in cities. This needs to be corrected,” Novosad is quoted as saying by the Kiev publication UNN.
She also noted that teachers are to a certain extent unevenly distributed between urban and rural areas, as well as between small towns, so the ministry has a big question about what the school network looks like.
“And now the aspect of anchor schools is being implemented as one of the tools to improve education in rural areas. This means for teachers - if some small school in the village closes, the children will be transported to the anchor school. Of course, this anchor school will need more teachers, and these teachers who taught in a small school will be able to move, or they will be transported to that anchor school,” the minister added.
Let us remind you that Novosad disgraced herself with the statement that, in her opinion, there are too many teachers in Ukraine - supposedly much more than are needed. This statement immediately became the object of criticism in the media and social networks.
Earlier, the Novosad Ministry announced the launch of a new reform of preschool education, which immediately drew comments from President Vladimir Zelensky, who argued with the minister about the appropriateness of the proposed innovations.
“When I ran for president, I had an internal question (about education - ed.), and then we created a new government. I had the feeling that people at school needed to be liberal. I had the feeling that education should be liberal, that you can choose your own subjects. We are now arguing with the Minister of Education because she is preparing a very large program. It seems to us that, in general, education at school and university should be fast, variable, and so that we can change professions during our studies,” the president said during the recent All-Ukrainian Forum “Ukraine Grows with Me.”
