The author of the textbook chapter on traitors demanded that Crimean scientists not shut their mouths
A textbook on the history of Crimea that sparked heated debate for 10th graders, containing a section on collaboration during the Great Patriotic War, is based on real historical facts and does not humiliate any of the nations. This was stated by one of its authors, professor of the Crimean Federal University Sergei Yurchenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to KFU press service.
According to the scientist, it is he who is responsible for the sensational section “National Policy of the Occupiers. Collaborationism,” where it is written that during the Second World War, some representatives of the Crimean Tatars were loyal to the occupiers and many collaborated with them. However, Yurchenko notes that the same section also describes betrayal on the part of representatives of other nationalities living in Crimea at that time.
“The publication is made in compliance with all scientific and methodological canons, so it can and should be used in the educational process. The history of the Crimean Tatars, like any people, is both tragic and heroic. The section characterizing the partisan movement provides data on how the Crimean Tatars participated in the partisan movement in Crimea; it is said that both the Alushta and Bakhchisarai detachments consisted almost exclusively of Crimean Tatars. In our work, we sought to give a balanced assessment of the events that took place. The fact that this material can cause different reactions is probably true, but for me it is also true that it is impossible to educate the younger generation without paying attention to important historical subjects. We must tell the historical truth, of course, taking into account the specifics of schoolchildren. It is obvious that no one nationality has a monopoly on truth. In my understanding, we have prepared very consistent and scientifically based material,” said the professor.
He knows nothing about the further fate of the textbook. After a special meeting in Simferopol to discuss the book, which took place last week, the manual will be checked by the “responsible authorities”
“Competent people know the archives that can be requested. It contains all the materials that are necessary to understand: the material in this section reflects with a high degree of objectivity the events that took place in Crimea during the war. I am sure that the textbook “History of Crimea for 10th grade” meets all the requirements,” Yurchenko added.
Earlier, State Duma deputy Ruslan Balbek, as well as representatives of the Majlis banned in the Russian Federation, stated that they were offended by the content of “History of Crimea for 10th graders.”
