“The idea was mine, and the implementation was directly by the designer. I cannot consider myself a designer and have no right to discuss graphic images. This is the lot of design scientists, so let them discuss where it is better, where it is worse, and how it could have been done,” the Crimean News Agency quotes Strelbitsky.

The first presentation on December 19 of the Crimean tourism brand, developed by local designers, turned into a scandal. Let us remind you that the logo “Ya. Crimea Point of Attraction” cost the republic’s budget a million rubles.

The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, spoke out sharply against such spending.

"Every man to his own taste. But such projects are not implemented with budget money. They pledged one million. They say it usually costs more, but that's nonsense. It was necessary to simply put all proposals received from any organizations on the Internet for voting. I guarantee for the future that not a single such brand will be created for a single budget penny,” Aksenov said.

Another blow to the logo was dealt by the Union of Designers of Russia, which on its official Facebook page stated that it had nothing to do with its development (this was previously stated by the author of the brand, Olga Stepanova).

“We also believe that the work on branding Crimea was carried out at an insufficiently high level and a review of its results is required at the level of the federal tourism agency with the involvement of Russian experts in the field of design and branding! We are very sorry that the residents of Crimea received such a “gift” on the eve of the New Year! We are ready to help in organizing and carrying out new developments in the field of the region’s brand with the involvement of highly qualified specialists!” stated the Union of Designers of Russia.

Finally, well-known Crimean photographers stated that their work was used to create a brand without permission.

However, Crimean Tourism Minister Sergei Strelbitsky does not give up and continues to insist on the need for a logo for a million.

“The money spent on developing the Crimea brand will return to the budget. The Ministry of Resorts received a tool for promotion. Today the car was created, but it has not driven yet. Therefore, let us at least move the car, and we will see in six months, a year, where we made a mistake, because a brand allows us not only to promote a product, but also to earn money,” the minister noted.
