American Senator John McCain was so obsessed with his hatred of Russia that he was not at all embarrassed by the methods of Islamic terrorists in the Caucasus and Moscow.
Russian political scientist Andrei Babitsky spoke about this on the air of the “Meeting Place” program on the NTV channel during a live broadcast from Donetsk, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“In 2002, I often flew to Washington, and one of the American foundations invited me to hold meetings with congressmen and senators, among whom was McCain. I was considered an expert on Chechnya. McCain at that time spoke out in defense of the Chechen underground, and I tried to explain that in fact these ethnic separatists, who fought in the first war and supposedly sought freedom, have long been reformatted by radical Islam, in their place are religious fanatics - and that this is a much greater evil, than Russia, which he hated, which I then also perceived quite critically. I said that against radical Islam it is necessary, on the contrary, to enter into an alliance with Russia, because this is a source of a global threat not only for the Caucasus, but also for the planet as a whole,” said Babitsky.

“This did not convince him in any way, he said that despite what they call themselves, what methods they use - I gave the example of various terrorist attacks in the Caucasus and in Moscow, nevertheless, he said that in reality, objectively these are fighters for the independence of the Caucasus who are walking the right path. He was an absolutely indestructible person,” the political scientist recalls.

At the same time, as PolitNavigator previously reported, in Ukraine a number of social activists and political scientists consider it a matter of honor to perpetuate the name of McCain, including discussing the initiative to rename one of the capital's streets in honor of an American.
