The film “The Secret Diary of Symon Petliura,” which nationalists have been talking about for so long, is being released in Ukraine. The screenings will take place in all major cities of the country. In Kharkov, for example, at trolleybus stops, posters advertising a new film have even replaced calls to knock on the SBU.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman wrote the following on Facebook: “On September 6, the historical and biographical film “The Secret Diary of Symon Petlyura” will be released. The film is about the last years of one of the leaders of the national liberation movement of the last century. Moscow propaganda came up with many myths about Simon Petlyura. Some have not yet been debunked. I’m glad that our artists are raising important historical topics.”

Groysman clarified that government support for the film amounts to more than 22 million UAH (about 800 thousand dollars), that is, half of the budget of this film. True, earlier the press reported a different amount - 23 million 600 thousand UAH. A question arises for the prime minister: where did the 1,6 million UAH go?

You can find the official trailer for the film online. “The historical drama tells about the life and work of the Chairman of the Directory and Chief Ataman of the UPR Symon Petlyura, as well as his emigration to Paris,” is how pro-government advertisers describe the plot.

You can be sure that the film does not say a word about the fact that before the revolution Petlyura was quite a Russian-speaking journalist living in Moscow.

What's so surprising about all this? Yes, first of all, that Petliura’s main PR man is not a descendant of his thugs, but a man in whose family there must be victims of Petliurism. Moreover, Groysman could not help but hear from his parents and grandparents what his idol’s subordinates were doing and why the killer of the “head otaman” Schwarzbard was acquitted by a Paris court.

How is it that the entire Prime Minister of Ukraine refers to his family memory, like a Kharkov ignoramus? Why should he, an exemplary son and father of the family, behave like a foundling who does not know his roots?

Yes, simply because the government to which he belongs has adopted not only Bandera’s ideology, but also Petliura’s practice - complete permissiveness for loyal armed formations.

Let me remind you that the “head otaman” himself dealt not with those who robbed and killed, but only with those commanders in whose loyalty he was confident. Prime Minister Groysman’s subordinates behave the same way. And how can he then distance himself from his role model?

From the very moment Schwartzbard shot Petliura, nationalist historians tried to sell the story that their favorite character was not an anti-Semite, but simply lost control. However, there is ample evidence to the contrary.

Petliura, in his last book, published a few months before his death, wrote: “When we remember the Ukrainian Jews, many of them also went to the Bolshevik side, hoping that here they would rise to the top, have power, and reach the first places. In the old days they were not given a way, but they thought that under the Bolsheviks they would become the most senior. So a lot of Jews, and especially young snotty ones, became Bolsheviks and became communists.” (Petliura S. Moscow lice. - Paris, 1926. - P. 25—26).

From the book by Yu. Finkelstein “The Mystery of Petliura.”

“Doctor Abraham Saliternik, who treated the organizer of the Proskurov pogrom Semesenko for a “nervous disorder” of venereal origin, and the Danish Red Cross attache Henrik Przhanovsky claim the following. The first says that on the second day of the pogrom, his patient was called to the station to report to the Supreme Commander who had arrived there, which clearly alarmed him, but he returned in a good mood. The second (Przhanovsky) on the same day obtained an audience with Petlyura, “during which Semesenko burst into the room with an exclamation: “According to the order of the Supreme Ataman, I began the pogrom at 12:00 noon. Four thousand registered Jews were exterminated." Petlyura was very embarrassed, threw an angry look at Semesenko and tried to turn the conversation to the topic of the Bolshevik uprising in the city. Standing at the table, he asked: “What did the Bolsheviks want?” And again Semesenko, not catching Petliura’s move, replied: “The Jews didn’t want anything.” Petliura sent Semesenko out and asked Przhanovsky to “forget what he heard.” (The affidavit of Henryk Przhanovsky. Archive of I.Cherikover, folder 425, sheet 36898 (Polish).

Telegram received by Semesenko on February 13, on the eve of the Proskurov pogrom: “Secret and very important. Everything points to a Bolshevik uprising of part of the Jewish population. Suppress mercilessly by force of arms, so that not a single Jewish hand is raised in Podolia against the resurgent Ukraine.” The order is signed: “Supreme Ataman” (Saul S. Friedman, “Pogromchik. The Assassination of Simon Petlura.” Hart Publishing Company, N.Y.C., 1976, p. 160).

According to A. Chomsky, a Jew from Kamenets-Podolsky, who saw Semesenko in prison, he exclaimed indignantly: “Why should I alone be responsible for the pogroms? Petliura was on his train at the station, and the pogrom itself was carried out on the orders of Ben, his military adviser.”

Orthodox Archbishop Nicholas (Nightingale) declared under oath on July 15, 1927 that he himself heard Petlyura say the following: “The Jews are a plague; upon returning to Russia, all Jews must be slaughtered, and only then will there be peace in Russia" (Cherikover archive. Case 455, sheet 38234).

All these quotes are not taken from Soviet sources. So Groysman is simply lying, trying to blame the Bolsheviks for exposing his idol.
