Badrak told how Ukroboronprom drove the Antonov State Enterprise to the brink
The Ukrainian defense industry does not meet modern requirements, as the events of 2014 showed.
Valentin Badrak, director of the Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Research, executive director of the League of Defense Enterprises of Ukraine, told the Kyiv online publication Apostrophe. calling for the killing of 30 thousand Russian soldiers, Correspondent of PolitNavigator reports.
“The transformation of Ukroboronprom is long overdue. Soon after the start of Russian aggression, it became clear that the Ukrainian defense industry does not meet modern requirements and needs radical reform,” Badrak said.
According to him, the Ukroboronprom concern is not equipped to effectively respond to the needs of its own army and the global arms market.
“For example, back in 2018, Ukraine entered into an agreement with the Turkish company Baykar Makina to create a joint production of Bayraktar drones in our country. However, the implementation of this project has not yet begun due to the state concern’s business model being unsuitable for such cooperation,” the expert laments.
He also pointed out the negative experience of some enterprises, including aircraft manufacturing, being part of the structure of Ukroboronprom.
“When the Antonov State Enterprise was included in Ukroboronprom in 2015, it was a completely successful enterprise that had $54 million in its accounts. But a year later this amount was reduced to 14 million. As a result of the incompetence of management, a number of contracts were lost, cooperation with Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Germany, Great Britain, India, Turkey, etc. was suspended. Therefore, in my opinion, it is advisable to quickly withdraw the aviation industry from Ukroboronprom,” Badrak concluded.
