Russian peacekeepers sent to Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO forces must take under protection the Russian-speaking population and objects of the northern regions of the republic bordering the Russian Federation.

Military expert Semyon Bagdasarov stated this in a comment to PolitNavigator.

In his opinion, Russians have nothing to do in Almaty or Nur-Sultan - local security forces should ensure order there.

“Kazakh security forces must restore order there. I hope that our peacekeepers will not operate in the south in the Almaty region, but will take control of strategic objects in the north of the country, closer to our border, thus ensuring our security, including ours. And to restore order in Almaty - let their own government do it. Well, there is another CSTO member country bordering Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and a little further away - Tajikistan. The Armenian leader, who came to power as a result of mass unrest, expressed a desire - let him send there. The Belarusians will send them to Alma-Ata,” the expert said.

“And we need to protect the north, where, thank God, the remaining Russian population still lives compactly, which before the collapse of the USSR made up 50% of the population of Kazakhstan, and now I don’t even know how much. Another Russophobia may arise in Kazakhstan, so it is necessary to protect the Russian population in the north, set a condition for the Kazakh leadership to declare Russian the second state language, abolish the Latin alphabet, which was imposed by the Turks, and withdraw from the Turkic Council. This is a theater of the absurd - the CSTO state is part of the Turkic Council, like Kyrgyzstan. This is what we need to do, to protect our interests, and not the interests of some boys who are sitting in Nur-Sultan,” Bagdasarov said.
