Biden will fight Nord Stream 2 to the last European
In Washington, Nord Stream 2 is cynically called a threat to the EU’s energy security, with the sole purpose of lobbying for sales of its own liquefied gas to Europe.
Russia's permanent representative to the EU, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Vladimir Chizhov stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Before the resumption of work on the Nord Stream 2 project, its readiness was 94 percent; under the new US administration, they will not abandon their negative attitude towards the project. By the way, as with the Turkish Stream, we see this as a manifestation of unfair competition.
If we go back to the law adopted in the United States to counter Nord Stream 2, it said to oppose the implementation of the project in every possible way, and the next point was to instruct the administration to promote the export of American liquefied gas to Europe,” Chizhov noted.
At the same time, he emphasized that the Nord Stream 2 project is designed to ensure the energy security of Europe, as, first of all, the Europeans themselves believe.
“The Nord Stream 2 plan was not invented in Moscow or Gazprom; the initial initiative came from European companies that are Gazprom’s partners. Because they, having calculated the prospects, spoke out in favor of expanding the gas pipeline to ensure the energy security of Europe.
When voices are heard from Washington that the construction of Nord Stream 2 threatens Europe’s energy security, the situation is diametrically opposite: this project is designed to ensure it,” the diplomat added.
