Biden and Poroshenko lied simultaneously at a press conference in Kyiv
Today's joint press conference in Kyiv between Petro Poroshenko and outgoing US Vice President Joe Biden was a demonstration of the deceitful policy of double standards.
Political scientist Denis Denisov, an expert at the Institute of CIS Countries, told PolitNavigator about this.
Firstly, according to the expert, today Poroshenko’s lack of independence was once again confirmed - Biden repeated all the same excuses about the reasons for non-compliance with the Minsk agreements, which were voiced by the Ukrainian leadership in recent months.

“All these excuses about the impossibility of fulfilling the political part of the Minsk agreements are the consolidated position of Ukraine and the United States from the very beginning. It’s just that over the past year they have been trying to convince their European partners that these are reasons independent of them,” Denisov noted.
The expert considers Biden and Poroshenko’s statements about Ukraine’s successes to be the most cynical lies, while the country continues to plunge into poverty and its corrupt ruling elite enriches itself from the war.
“In essence, we are once again faced with a policy of double standards. The Obama administration never “saw” that there is widespread nepotism, total corruption, and bribery in Ukraine. Over the past three years, the situation has only worsened.
But Biden chose to remain silent about this, trying to pass off wishful thinking.
In fact, the press conference resulted in empty sloganeering statements that are designed to divert attention from key problems both within Ukraine and in the Minsk process,” the political scientist said.
He expressed hope that the new administration of Donald Trump will build relations with the Poroshenko regime differently.
“Poroshenko should not expect such an approach when all his blatant actions related to deception and forgery will be turned a blind eye. There are great hopes that, at best, Trump will help resolve the conflict in Donbass, and at worst, his administration will not interfere with peace coming there,” Denisov concluded.
