Biden can't take the US back to 2016
The anti-Russian and anti-Chinese trends in American foreign policy set by the previous US administration will not go away under the new president.
The chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada, Vladimir Batyuk, told Kommersant, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Despite the extremely negative attitude towards President Trump’s policies, the Biden administration will not be able to return the United States to 2016, even if it wants to. The 46th US President will have to inherit some aspects of Trump's strategy. First of all, this is the conclusion that America’s main opponents in the international arena will not be some non-state actors like the Islamic State, but hostile world powers - China and Russia,” Batyuk said.
At the same time, he believes that for all the harshness of the anti-Chinese rhetoric of the new administration in the White House, which prioritizes the problems of values and democratic rights and freedoms, “Joe Biden’s team will try to avoid tariff wars with China, which, as experience shows, are destructive primarily for the American economy."
