US presidential candidate Joe Biden will continue the policy of his predecessors to resist the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

“Biden will try to find ways to resist Nord Stream 2, but somehow minimally affect Germany. I do not believe that under Biden any sanctions will be introduced against German companies, firms, and government agencies. I think he won't agree to this.
But, in fact, in the United States there is a consensus between Republicans and Democrats that Nord Stream 2 is a political project that will increase Russia’s influence in Europe, and it is not beneficial to the United States, if only for that reason. I have not heard any significant democrats say that Nord Stream 2 needs to be built.
I think that Biden will try to drown this project, but drowning it by indirect means will not irritate the Germans, and will not push Germany away from the United States. This is difficult because the Germans have invested many billions in Nord Stream 2. Merkel there defends not our interests, but the interests of German companies and firms, the interests of Germany, the promising role of Germany as a major gas center in Europe. And it’s hard for me to say how Biden will get out of this. And strategically it should be against Nord Stream 2,” Pushkov said.
In turn, Russian political scientist and TV presenter Dmitry Kulikov expressed the opinion that Russophobia may not only persist, but also significantly intensify, because Joe Biden will try to become a much more anti-Russian president than Donald Trump was.
“I am absolutely convinced that Biden will not cancel anything that Trump has already introduced in relation to Nord Stream 2.” Secondly, if he resists Nord Stream 2 too sluggishly, the Republicans will be hard on him for this all the time.
