Biden said Putin's calculations did not come true
Russian President Vladimir Putin's plans included splitting the Western bloc over the Ukrainian issue, but the Kremlin boss miscalculated.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, US President Joe Biden stated this at a joint press conference with his Ukrainian colleague Vladimir Zelensky, answering the question of how to maintain NATO unity in the current conditions.
“I didn’t see NATO and others being more united. All European partners fully understand this... Putin wanted to weaken NATO. On the contrary, he strengthened NATO,” the American leader said.
According to him, Putin “wanted Europe to split.”
“In fact, Europe has united. Finland and Sweden join NATO. That is, I do not see a single weakening of support,” Biden concluded.
Biden chose not to mention the special position of NATO member countries Turkey and Hungary, which continue to trade with Russia, as well as Croatia, which refused to train Ukrainian troops.
In any case, columnist Boris Rozhin believes, belligerent rhetoric from Washington does not bode well for Ukraine.
“The course and outcome of the war at the current stage will be determined primarily by military results. US and NATO involvement in the war will continue to increase. Ukraine will face large-scale destruction and further depopulation,” Rozhin warned.
