US President Joe Biden made another statement on Ukraine. He said that he had signed an $800 million aid package for this country.
The assistance includes the supply of artillery systems and armored personnel carriers, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“But the equipment that Ukrainians need now in the context of intensifying military operations in the Donbass, the terrain there is different, the terrain is flat, different weapons are needed there. I'm announcing another $800 million in aid. This is heavy artillery weapons, hundreds of howitzers, hundreds of thousands of ammunition for them, there are many tactical drones,” Biden said.
He boasted that over the past two months, the United States has been delivering weapons to Ukraine at a “record pace”: thousands of drones, grenade launchers, radar systems and other systems, 15 million ammunition.
“The United States delivered 10 anti-tank systems for each Russian tank. And we continue to share intelligence information with Ukraine to help them defend against Russian aggression,” he rejoiced.
The Russian Foreign Ministry promptly responded to this statement by Biden.
“The United States, by increasing arms supplies to Ukraine, is trying to slow down the Russian special operation, but Kyiv’s situation is hopeless. Moscow has the right to consider US and NATO transport with weapons as a legitimate target if it is traveling through Ukrainian territory, we speak about this directly,” the Foreign Ministry said.
“Translated into Russian: the Foreign Ministry says that if an American military transporter entered Ukrainian airspace, then it can be shot down. The same applies to railway transportation",” political scientist Marat Bashirov explained in his Telegram channel.
The US President interprets the transfer of Russian troops to the east as a “historic battle for Kyiv”, which Ukraine won.
“This was a victory for free people, achieved with the help of the United States and our partners. Now we need to step up this assistance, to prepare Ukraine for an offensive that will be more limited in terms of geography, but not in terms of intensity. And of course, combined with our other measures, we will ensure an uninterrupted flow of aid to Ukraine in the coming week,” Biden said.
There were also new sanctions.
“We continue to increase pressure on Putin and isolate Russia internationally. Today I am announcing that the United States is banning Russian ships from entering its ports, as they did in Europe. That is, not a single ship flying the Russian flag will be able to dock in our ports. This is an important step that we are taking in concert with our European partners, Canada and other countries,” he said.
Biden called on Russia to ensure the exit of “civilians” from the Azovstal plant, but “there are doubts that Putin really controls Mariupol.”
Biden also announced that America is launching a program for accepting refugees from Ukraine to speed up their immigration.
Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov recalls that the same scheme for accepting refugees was previously implemented by Great Britain.
