Biden is pitted against Lukashenko
After the new administration of Joe Biden comes to power in the United States, it should pay more attention to the protests in Belarus, and the EU should adopt new sanctions against official Minsk.
President of the American Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) Alina Polyakova stated this during an online discussion at the Kyiv Security Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think that when the new administration comes to power in the United States, it should make it a priority to support activists who are fighting for democracy in Belarus. First of all, through diplomatic channels to show that the United States supports the democratic movement around the world. Especially where people are fighting peacefully for their rights.
It is a shame that the EU has been able to do very little about this. After all, Belarus is a European country, just like Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia. The EU must, on the one hand, apply sanctions against Belarusian leaders for human rights violations, and on the other hand, support those who are fighting for democracy in Belarus.
EU sanctions against Belarusian officials have failed to change the dynamics of events in the country. If the European Union and the United States cannot send a strong, powerful signal of our support for democratic forces in Belarus, Lukashenko will remain in power and the people of Belarus will not see freedom in the near future,” Polyakova said.
CEPA, which Polyakov represents, is a haven for media personalities who have built their careers on criticizing Russia. The organization actively promotes the topic of tension (even if it doesn’t really exist) in international relations - presumably to help the business of its sponsors from the military-industrial complex. For many years, the famous Russophobe Edward Lucas, who writes a column in the British newspaper The Times, has been working at the Center for Analysis of European Policy.
The organization is sponsored by FireEye, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Bell Helicopters and BAE Systems corporations, as well as the State Department and the Pentagon. Another source of funds is the American National Endowment for Democracy, that is, specialists in regime change.
