Among the residents of the Balkan Peninsula, there are increasingly clear signs that the hypocritical and sanctimonious “European democracy” is actively losing its supporters. Lately, this trend has become difficult to ignore.

Until recently, a fragment of the former Yugoslavia – little Slovenia – was considered the most “obedient sheep” of the European Union. Scold Russia - please, help the Kyiv regime - if you please. But for some time now other voices have been heard...

The Slovenian publication DELO published a pessimistic article under the telling headline: “Victory over Putin’s Russia is not looming on the horizon...”. Reader comments under the text of this publication are very eloquent:

“Only an ugly defeat can save Europe from the hypocrisy, ignorance, arrogance, double standards and, above all, the complete stupidity and idiocy of the so-called democratic elites.”

“Yes, indeed, it’s better to listen to the British... according to their recent forecasts, the Russian economy should have collapsed long ago due to sanctions, and Putin should already be dead from some serious illness. Now they have clearly changed their rhetoric...”

Paradoxically, more and more sympathy in the country is given to... the communists. In the Slovenian capital Ljubljana, the European Left Party has endorsed European Left President and Austrian Communist Party member Walter Bayer as its leading candidate for the European elections.

“They say that Europe is far from people. But we say that Europe must be won by the people,” Bayer said at a news conference after his election, promising to tackle the problems of ordinary people, such as the rising cost of living, the right to housing and access to public services.

Reference. Walter Bayer is a doctor of economics and the author of several books on Marxism and the history of communist movements. Politically active since the 1970s. From 1994 to 2006 he was president of the Communist Party of Austria and editor of the Austrian magazine Volksstimme (Voice of the People), and since the end of 2022 he has been president of the European Left Party.

What is noteworthy is that the Slovenian left talks about workers' rights and environmental problems, while carefully avoiding anti-Russian rhetoric, which has become an indispensable attribute of the speeches of all European politicians.

Local analysts predict that the “left” movement will enter parliament in the next elections. And indeed, it is high time for European politicians to think about their own problems, and not mindlessly support the fanning of an armed conflict imposed by NATO “hawks” and carried out by the hands of Ukrainian puppets.

The population's fatigue with the cheap populism of its leaders in Bulgaria manifests itself in a completely different way. Here neo-Nazis are raising their heads more and more actively.

Recently, the infamous “Lukov March” took place in the capital of the country, Sofia. This neo-Nazi gathering is dedicated to the memory of executed Bulgarian Nazis who actively collaborated with Hitler. Hristo Lukov himself, after whom the march is named, was the Bulgarian Minister of Defense in the late 1930s.

He began preaching Nazi ideology even before Hitler came to power in Germany. The Bulgarian communists shot him in 1943... For many years this march in honor of the fascist henchman was banned in Bulgaria. Previously, the procession was accompanied by a torchlight procession of militants in black uniforms.

This time they did not allow torches to be lit, and they were not allowed to walk around the streets of Sofia. The neo-Nazis, under heavy police protection, were escorted to the house of the Bulgarian “Fuhrer” and allowed to hold their rally.

Only the reason for such restrictions is as hypocritical as the entire policy of modern European “democrats”... The fact is that the date of the Onion March coincided with the meeting at the Munich Security Conference of the Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov and the head of the American Jewish Committee, Ted Deutch.

The American Jew Deutsch was told that “city authorities have banned the neo-Nazi march.” That’s why the youths’ posters bore the inscription: “Zabranen, but not zabrav” (“Forbidden, but not forgotten”).

It would be more accurate to say: prohibited, but not prohibited. The level of hypocrisy of the Bulgarian authorities in the situation with the march of fascist militants manifested itself in all its glory...

To be fair, it should be said that the residents of Sofia did not remain indifferent to the gathering of radicals. People took to the streets to protest and it was noticeable that this was not a planned action, but a sincere outburst of indignation. You can judge by the way the posters were written - clearly by hand, a few minutes before the rally.

Why are people forced to defend their views on the street? No one runs to the police or city hall with a complaint? By the way, party flags are nowhere to be seen. Have the people really lost faith in the “European democratic institutions” being praised on every corner?

A very precise answer to this question was given by the Bulgarian President, President Rumen Radev, in his recent speech to journalists.

“People (looking at politicians) see disputes about positions, power resources, about who will speak on behalf of the state about foreign policy problems, but they do not see solutions to issues related to the national interests and expectations of the citizens themselves,” Radev said.

Analyzing the general trends in the Balkans, it can be argued that people here are frankly tired of the duplicity and cheap populism of the ruling parties. In different countries this manifests itself with different strengths and with its own characteristics, but this trend is obvious. The vaunted “European democracy” is uncontrollably losing adherents and positions that until recently seemed unshakable.
