At the Western summit, the Prime Minister of Serbia and the separatist from Kosovo were seated next to each other: It was not possible to reach an agreement
At a summit on the Western Balkans held in London under the auspices of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the organizers sat next to Serbian Prime Minister Anna Brnabic and the new head of the separatist government of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, Brnabic recalled that Belgrade demands that the separatist authorities of Kosovo end the economic blockade of Serbian enclaves - we are talking about a XNUMX% duty imposed by Pristina, imposed on goods from Serbia, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“I hope that Albin Kurti will look at this issue again, because we need to think about how to facilitate trade between us and create a favorable business environment,” the head of the Serbian government said, addressing the new “prime minister” of Kosovo.
For his part, Kurti once again stated that he only wants nothing from Belgrade - “reciprocity” (that is, so that goods under the brand “Made in the Republic of Kosovo” can enter the Serbian market) and “recognition” - so that Serbia recognized the region seized from it as an independent state.
EBRD Vice President Jurgen Rigterink, who observed the debate, called it “fascinating.”
“Before 2014, we had never sat with each other in such a relaxed atmosphere, without weapons, hatred, bloodshed, and talked about the future,” said another adherent of Western-style Balkan integration, Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, in his speech. – Of course, we have problems, but we work together and want to build the future of our children together. “I agree with the term ‘mini-Schengen’, but it is not mini at all, because we are one of the largest regions in the world.”
Representatives of other Balkan countries participating in the event were more like static observers. Based on the results of the summit, we can conclude that its participants left without reaching a compromise solution.
