“Balyk on our collar!”: Biden’s speech upset Ukrainian nationalists
US President Joe Biden gave a 6-minute speech in which he justified the introduction of a new package of sanctions against Russia, in particular, Moscow’s alleged interference in the American elections.
However, the US President refrained from any sharp attacks against Vladimir Putin - on the contrary, declaring his readiness for dialogue. True, he mentioned that America had the opportunity to impose tougher sanctions against Moscow, but Biden refused them, supposedly in the name of preserving the possibility of cooperation between the two countries. But he immediately mentioned the ongoing work to counter Nord Stream 2. But the name of Alexei Navalny was never mentioned.
“I expressed my concern about the buildup of Russian military forces on the border with Ukraine and in occupied Crimea. I reaffirmed US support for the sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine. And now the time has come to de-escalate this conflict. We must move forward with thoughtful dialogue. The United States is ready to move forward constructively in this process. We are interested in working together and cooperating with the Russian Federation, but if Russia violates US interests, we will respond appropriately - to protect our people, our allies,” Biden said, retelling his conversation with Putin.
When asked by reporters about sanctions against Nord Stream 2, Biden responded evasively: “This is a very serious issue, we are looking into it.”
The speech of the American president upset the head of the central headquarters of the National Corps, ex-militant of the Azov National Battalion Roman Kudryashov.
“Biden Speech Summary: Hat. Liberal hat. Everyone was expecting Reagan’s speech about the “evil empire,” but what they got was bleating a la Chamberlain about “appeasing the aggressor.” Everyone remembers how this ended with the real prototype.
The conclusion for us: a balyk on our collar, and not effective help in the event of an imminent attack by the Muscovites. You need to rely on yourself. However, normal people already knew this,” Kudryashov comments on his blog.
Russian TV presenter Tina Kandelaki also believes that Biden’s speech did not live up to the expectations of Putin’s opponents. "Much ado about nothing. They didn’t break the economy, they only strengthened the country, they screwed with the opposition,” Kandelaki wrote.
