Young man, it pains me to answer the question of how attacks on churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church are perceived in our traditionally tolerant city. Alas, the dirty hands of fascist vandals have reached Odessa. Judge for yourself.

In the last XNUMX hours alone, there have been several attacks, especially painful for believers, and all decent Odessa residents, during the Christmas period. Yesterday, literally in broad daylight, organized groups of young people pasted banners on our churches with an image of a road sign indicating an “accident-hazardous area” and an inscription indicating the distance to Moscow. They pasted leaflets with offensive and provocative texts directed against the Russian Orthodox Church on church doors. It is very typical that in response to the indignation of priests and parishioners, paid fighters against the “Moscow priests” demanded that they be given the opportunity to film the fruits of their atrocities “for reporting” to their customers. And having received a rebuff, they offered money, and after refusals they tried to rudely provoke the priests and flock.

There is a clear campaign of unbridled persecution of believers of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Moreover, the national radicals do not hide their “overarching goal” at all: there is a systematic attack on everything Russian in a huge country. And loyalty to the faith of fathers and grandfathers is outlawed. And the law is silent! After all, all the protests and appeals to law enforcement agencies voiced by the press service of our Bishop Agafangel remain without a real response. Meanwhile, in 2017 alone, 17 churches in the Odessa region were robbed and desecrated. And none of these crimes were solved.

So on the night of January 9-10, in the satellite city of Odessa Ilyichevsk (renamed under the current regime to Chernomorsk), the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God was destroyed. The attackers entered it by breaking into the back door. In search of loot, they broke the donation boxes. And not finding money there, they staged a pogrom, breaking into the altar and breaking its gates... What was more in this act of vandalism - greed or the desire to desecrate an Orthodox shrine - is difficult to say. But, given the synchronicity of the varied but coordinated actions of the Bandera vandals, it seems that the robbery was only an excuse for mockery and attempts to intimidate both priests and believers.

Unfortunately, the Ukrainian state clearly and openly indulges those who purposefully pursue Russophobic policies in all spheres of our life - from education to faith. Hypocritically calling for the “unity” of all citizens of the country, they breed discord, not wanting to understand: the pogromists and their secret and obvious patrons may, in the end, run into adequate resistance. After all, it is said: whoever sows the wind will reap the whirlwind.
