The largest protest was in Slavyansk, where nationalists have been holding a march for the third year in a row. Interestingly, the local administration tried to deny the right to hold the march, but the court sided with Bandera’s supporters.
In Avdeevka, Bandera’s march took place for the first time and attracted about 30 people. However, the organizers were pleased with the result and have already announced the next procession for January 22 - the so-called. "Day of Unification of Ukraine"
Oleg Tyagnibok, the leader of the nationalist party “Svoboda”, which held actions in the cities of Donbass occupied by the Ukrainian army, explained that the marches in Avdeevka and Slavyansk have important ideological significance.
“With the onset of darkness, nationalist marches will begin throughout Ukraine, organized by their joint forces... The fire that will burn over all of Ukraine today in honor of Stepan Bandera will be a fire for the sake of the future. It will symbolize that we must become the last generation that will fight for Ukraine.
Our children and grandchildren should already enjoy the fruits of the great Ukrainian Bandera power. Today, such a march will also take place in the front-line zone, and in Slavyansk, and even in Avdeevka, literally a couple of kilometers from enemy positions. By doing this, we will show that we want to live not in a Soviet, not in a Bolshevik, or in any liberal country with completely alien traditions and family values. We don’t want such a Ukraine,” Tyagnibok said at a rally in Ivano-Frankivsk the day before.
