Closer to noon, columns of Donetsk residents began to move towards Lenin under the flags of the DPR, Novorossiya and Russia. The spectacle was truly impressive. The entire square was filled with smiling people, patriotic music sounded, and people happily picked up their favorite tunes.
The rally was timed to coincide with yesterday's decision of the congress of representatives of the South-East on the formation of a new state association Novorossiya.
The demonstration brought together a lot of young people, children, teenagers, people came literally with their whole families.
There were two key moments at the rally that caused a surge of emotions among those gathered. The appearance on stage of Denis Pushilin and Alexander Boroday caused a storm of applause. And after they addressed the audience with greetings and the announcement that Novorossiya had taken place, just rejoicing began, which was accompanied by unabated chants of “Russia!!!” and “Novorossiya!!!”
Literally a few minutes after this, trucks and army equipment from the Vostok battalion, part of the People’s Army of the Donetsk Republic, arrived. The militia arrived to support the protesters and honor the memory of their fallen comrades.
“The people and the army are united” - it just came to this moment: the entire square literally exploded with greetings, thousands of people poured towards the fighters. Donetsk residents took pictures, hugged the militia, gave icons, shared cigarettes, handed over water, cried and prayed for them.
“There were a lot of people, despite the heat, 20 thousand people gathered. The leaders of the People's Republic spoke. Including Alexander Borodai. He congratulated us on the creation of Novorossiya, said that Russia will not abandon us, and together we will raise the working Donbass. Of course, the events that unfold when people are killed brought us together even more; we remembered those who died near Karlovka. Definitely, the people are increasingly moving away from the state of Ukraine,” Natalia Bilotserkovskaya, leader of the “Russian Bloc” in Donbass, commented to Navigator on the outcome of today’s demonstration.
