Battalions of criminals: Ukrainian soldiers in the ATO zone will be checked for criminal records and mental health

After the scandal with the “Tornado” battalion of criminals that got out of control, it became impossible for the Ukrainian authorities to hide the presence of such an obvious problem as the huge number of previously convicted persons in the ranks of both volunteer battalions and the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In this regard, fighters from the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be checked for criminal records and mental health.

About it said the representative of the Presidential Administration on ATO issues Andrei Lysenko.

Answering a question about the current situation around the Tornado base, he said that he currently has no information.

“As for checking people serving in units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service or the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a mandatory check of the person must indeed be carried out. Firstly, so that the person has not been convicted, and that he has appropriate mental health and has a military specialty,” said A. Lysenko.

He also added that the answer to the question of how people with criminal records ended up in the law enforcement agencies should be answered by the investigation.

Let us recall that the military prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios stated that more than 40 people who had previously been convicted several times served in the Tornado battalion. And battalion commander ONishchenko himself had five convictions behind him.
