The US base in Crimea is no longer relevant - all of Ukraine is under the Americans
It’s time for guests of Russian talk shows to stop repeating the hackneyed story about saving Crimea from hosting a US military base after Euromaidan - almost the entire former territory of Ukraine is now under the Americans.
This opinion was expressed on the Rossiya-24 channel by Igor Dimitriev, a former deputy of the Odessa City Council, a participant in the events of May 2, 2014, who was forced to leave Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Dimitriev argued with Russian film director Yuri Kara, who was present in the studio, who claimed that US Navy aircraft carriers were heading to the Black Sea.
“When Tymoshenko left prison, she immediately announced that in a month there would be no Russian fleet in Crimea. Aircraft carriers were already approaching there, supposedly to protect American athletes at the Olympics, but in fact, a military base had been prepared in Sevastopol, they went there purposefully, it was actually another base of the American fleet. It is not Ukraine that is more upset about the loss of Crimea, but the United States,” Kara said.
Igor Dmitriev did not share the director’s optimism.
“The United States is not upset by the loss of Crimea. They have won back the loss of Crimea - in fact, now all of Ukraine is such a base, and the Americans still have the opportunity to deploy any tracking means and military instruments, probably to a greater extent than it would be in Crimea,” said the Odessa resident.
Let us recall that without formal entry into NATO, the alliance’s troops are almost constantly on the territory of Ukraine - the West instructs ATO militants at the training ground in the Lviv region and near the front line in the Donbass. Large-scale NATO exercises are regularly held, and the United States is building a naval control center in Ochakovo near Odessa.
