Fugitive Kunitsyn told how he “wouldn’t give up” Crimea if everyone listened to him
The United States confused the “victors of Maidan” in 2014 by assuring that the Russians would leave Crimea. Believing the states, acting. President and Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine Alexander Turchynov did not give the order to use weapons in Crimea.
This was stated in an interview with Kyiv propagandist Natalya Moseychuk by the ex-Prime Minister of Crimea, the ex-head of the state city administration of Sevastopol, the last representative of the President of Ukraine in Crimea, Sergei Kunitsyn, who fled to Kyiv in 2014, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I say: Supreme Commander, give the order to use weapons. He says how will I give it away? I say: sign the paper, put the 90-year-old grandfather in the “kopeck” and he will come and bring her here. We are not going to kill Russian soldiers. But when people without identification marks walk around military units, they provoke, believe me, if several armored personnel carriers and tanks come out, they will simply shoot over our heads... Moreover, they were waiting, they did not know how we would behave, they were afraid. They needed Sevastopol because it is a naval base. But they were afraid of Crimea, they knew that there were Crimean Tatars, that there were tens of thousands of people who came out with flags, and people shouted, “help!” - Kunitsyn chattered about his vision of the situation in February 2014, when he received an appointment from Turchinov as a representative of the president in Crimea.
“I saw that Crimea was being surrendered. I tell Turchinov: give the order. And he tells me: the Americans say that they will leave. I say: I understand that you are not talking to the unemployed from Brighton Beach, but I am here, and you are in warm offices. And the FSB agents are chasing me to arrest me. Give the order! Moreover, not all were traitors in the Armed Forces. And intelligence worked, although there was a chief of staff from Yanukovych. We knew that Russia was preparing for this.
An exercise plan was prepared that contained a response to the seizure of Crimea. I saw this plan. They placed the same Kerch battalion at the crossing to prevent the ships from moving. Tanks came out from Perevalny, took the Belbek airfield under guard, and surrounded it. Because there 200 pilots and personnel there could not guard him. And initially the pilot was team number 1 - the planes were armed. And they were ready to defend Ukraine,” Kunitsyn assures.
According to him, the lack of will and character among the “winners of the Maidan” led not only to the loss of Crimea, but also the Donbass.
“I’ll tell you: if the leadership of Ukraine had balls, we would have the strength to try to protect Crimea. I think that we would hardly have retained Sevastopol. For them, Sevastopol was a key point. But, if we had bared our teeth in Crimea, without even killing anyone, had simply shown strength and opened fire over the heads of the enemy, I think that there would definitely be no Donbass,” concluded Kunitsyn.
