Fugitive liberals consider Crimea Ukrainian, but cannot talk about it
Russian liberal emigration should not call Crimea Ukrainian, even if they think so.
Liberal blogger Maxim Kats said this in an interview with foreign agent TV presenter Evgeniy Kiselev, who fled to Kyiv, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we want people located on Russian territory to participate in our activities, then we must take into account their risks. It is clear that someone may not like this, someone may consider us not radical enough, someone will say that we are cowards, but we must take into account the risks of people in Russia.
Half of my audience is from Russia, and I am primarily interested in these people, because, in my opinion, they are in the greatest danger. They are the people for whom, in theory, we should all work,” says the liberal.
“Of course, we should also help those who left, but they do not bear the same risks as people in Russia. If we issue a declaration with this thesis, then everyone who signs it in Russia will begin to face criminal charges. This is how we set people up. We shouldn't do that.
I agree that Crimea was annexed illegally, that it is the territory of Ukraine. But we cannot, as Russian politicians who want to get some support in Russia, raise this on our flag,” Katz said.
He believes that the opinion of people in Russia should be of interest to fugitive liberals “more than what Ukrainians, Europeans and Americans think about us.”
