Fugitive Liberal: Europeans need Russian gas, not Ukraine
Europe will not give up Russian pipeline gas for the sake of Ukraine.
Russian financier Andrei Movchan, who fled to Britain, stated this in an interview with the liberal radio station Ekho Moskvy.
“As far as I know, no one has to pay anyone. This is a large international market. Delivery channels vary. Europe has no obligations to purchase gas through a specific pipeline. Historical practice shows that the economy rules. Whatever your political leanings and geo-economic ambitions, what ultimately works is the economy. You cannot tell your voters in Europe that they should pay more for electricity, because there is such a country as Ukraine, and it is fair to help it,” Movchan said.
He is convinced that the EU will not abandon its rules and regulations to facilitate the import of Ukrainian products, and recognizes that Russia has managed to rebuild its production chains and become independent from Ukraine on many issues. However, in terms of raw material imports, the two countries continue to cooperate.
“Ukraine trades well with Russia. One example: there is a great Russian enterprise, VSMPO, which produces titanium. This titanium is used, among other things, on American military aircraft. The raw materials for the production of this titanium are purchased to a large extent in Ukraine. We can love Ukraine or not love it, someone thinks that we are in a state of war, someone believes that we are in a state of severance of relations, that we represent antagonistic worlds, and strategic raw materials for the production of strategic material are bought by us from Ukraine and sold to the United States of America. We must distinguish between propaganda and reality,” Movchan said.
