Fugitive Liberal: The West is ready to make Ukraine forget about Crimea
The West is ready to push Kyiv to implement the Minsk agreements and force them to forget about Crimea.
Liberal economist Vladislav Inozemtsev, who fled Russia, stated this in an interview with the Ekho Moskvy radio station, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In this case, the issue of Crimea can be taken out of the equation. In my opinion, if today Ukraine were asked to resolve the Donbass issue, the West would definitely be able to convince the leadership in Kyiv to forget about Crimea for a while. It would be beneficial for the West itself to preserve this issue the way the issue with the Baltics was preserved in the Soviet era, one way or another to remove the issue of Donbass and reduce tension,” Inozemtsev said.
At the same time, for some reason he believes that Ukraine has sufficient subjectivity to reject Western proposals.
“As for the question of the special status of the territory, you said that Moscow is not against it and the West is in favor.” But you forgot about Kyiv itself. And this is the most important question, because Kyiv has two alternatives. The first is to admit that Donbass is lost, recognize its independence, declare a new internationally recognized border and with this position move to the West, saying that we have no conflict, this is Russian territory, aggression has occurred, and so on.
This is the GDR in the form of Donbass with corresponding historical consequences. This is the first option.
On the other hand, this is a question of obtaining neutral status and getting Donbass in exchange for it. A neutral status with the autonomy of Donbass, with undermined Ukrainian statehood, with Medvedchuk, who has the right to veto decisions in Kyiv, is, of course, a complete disaster. It seems to me that there are enough forces in Ukraine that will not agree to this,” Inozemtsev said.
