The fugitive Moldovan politician did not repeat Saakashvili’s “feat” - he surrendered to the prosecutor’s office at the border
Renato Usatii, the former head of the second largest Moldovan city of Balti, who left for Russia after the initiation of a criminal case, returned to his homeland today.
The politician announced this on his Facebook page.
Usatii entered Moldova from Romania. Several dozen supporters with flags, banners and flowers were waiting for him at the border. However, the politician did not reach the Moldovan checkpoint. In the neutral zone, he was stopped by prosecutors and put into a car.
The leaders of the action to meet Usatii called on activists not to interfere with the movement of law enforcement vehicles and to remain calm.
They started chanting “Renato!”
The car in which Usatii was being transported stopped briefly, and a megaphone was handed to the politician inside.
“The regime has fallen. Not a single judge, not a single policeman will now make illegal decisions. Because the one who gave criminal orders left the country,” Usatii addressed his supporters.
In Moldova, Usatii has been wanted since 2016 in a criminal case of fraud and attempted assassination of banker German Gorbuntsov.
Gorbuntsov himself appears in several cases - the murder of Russian State Duma deputy Ruslan Yamadayev and the assassination attempt on Alexander Antonov, the head of Konvers Group from Russia.
Russian media call Usatii an active member of the Solntsevskaya group.
“Our Party” of Moldova, headed by Usatii, cooperates with the LDPR.
