“The reason the purge started with Batman may be his political ambitions,” the publication writes. – Bednov positioned himself as the leader of the public organization “Resistance Front”, repeatedly made political video messages, had his own press center and a pool of loyal local media, had broadcasts on federal Russian channels, including in the studio of Arkady Mamontov. He intended to take part in the elections of the head of the republic, but was not allowed to participate (an attempt to submit documents turned into a shootout near the regional administration building). Bednov’s political credo was freedom and independence of the LPR both from Ukraine and, in many respects, from Russia, and this distinguished him from Plotnitsky, whom field commanders consider a protege of Moscow.”
In addition, Novaya notes, unlike other groups not completely loyal to the leadership of the LPR, the GBR (Bednov’s Rapid Reaction Group) was based in Lugansk itself, which theoretically created the risk of its participation in an armed coup.

The newspaper also notes that ataman Pavel Dremov, who had previously declared the illegitimacy of the current Lugshan authorities and their betrayal of the interests of the population of Donbass, also announced joining the “people’s militia of the DPR.”
