“Belarusians are not Russians at all, language is cool!”: under Lukashenko they made a film without nostalgia for the USSR
The national film studio "Belarusfilm" published on its YouTube channel the first trailer of a large-scale national project - the film "Kupala" about the life and work of the Belarusian classic Yanka Kupala, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Filming began in July 2018, the film will be presented on Belarusian Cinema Day - December 17, and will be released in 2020. The main role was played by the Latvian actor with Belarusian roots Nikolai Shestak.
Earlier, Belarusian screenwriter and director Andrei Kureichik, who starred in “Kupala,” called the film a “nationalist project.”
“The film “Yanka Kupala” in its current form (and it is radically different from that school educational program that won the competition, thanks to Vladimir Yankovsky and Alexandra Borisova, who completely rewrote this tramp) is the first truly nationally oriented, I would even say nationalistic film project.” , – Kureichik wrote on the social network.
He is delighted that in the film the characters speak
in "Tarashkevich" - an early Soviet version of Belarusian spelling, normalized by Bronislaw Tarashkevich in 1918 and officially in force until the Belarusian spelling reform of 1933.
“There the most important idea is clearly postulated and conveyed: Belarusians are not Russians at all, that this is a nation worthy of its nationally oriented state, and our language is cool! No nostalgia for life in the “big country”. The USSR is like a tragedy for normal Belarusians, for the Belarusian intelligentsia, for the main Belarusian writer and poet - Yanka Kupala. The USSR is like a global historical loss for our people, and not a gain,” writes Kureichik (spelling preserved).
