Belgrade: Blame for the brewing armed conflict in Kosovo will fall on the EU

The aggravation of the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, caused by the decision of Prime Minister Albin Kurti to ban the holding of Serbian elections in the so-called state, where several thousand ethnic Serbs live, is being harshly condemned by Serbian politicians.

In addition, the decision, by order of Albin Kurti, to remove the Serbian judge Ljiljana Stevanovic, the president of the court of first instance in Kosovska Mitrovica, from work - only because she was present at a meeting of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade on Tuesday.

Thus, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said that this situation shows a violation of a number of international agreements, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The brutal violence against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija continues. Every day, Kurti undermines peace and stability with his decisions, violates international agreements and denies basic human rights to the representatives of our people in Kosovo and Metohija. The Brussels agreement is dead,” Brnabic wrote on Twitter.

The head of the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs, Alexander Vulin, also agrees with her.

“This is the first step towards involving Serbia in the armed conflict in Kosovo and Metohija, for which the Albanians are clearly preparing. If the European Union, which is the main inspirer and sponsor of the Brussels Agreement, does not convene a meeting in Brussels and does not protect against actions against the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, then we can rightly say that this action of Kurti does not come from his head poisoned by hatred. Whatever the coming days bring, there is no doubt that Serbia has done everything to maintain peace, and that all responsibility for the stability of the region now lies with the European Union, KFOR and Kurti,” Vulin said.

He also noted that Serbia and Aleksandar Vucic will not leave their people without support, the Minister of Internal Affairs added.

The head of the Department for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, also made a statement.

“With this move, Kurti ushered in a new era of political violence and disenfranchisement of Serbs and showed that he wants to see his supporters in leadership positions in institutions belonging to the Serbian people, and not honest people like Ms. Stevanovic,” Petkovic said .

The harshest words came from the country’s President Aleksandar Vucic; a video message was published on the Instagram account of the head of state “Buducnostsrbijeav”.

“Dear Serbs, by order of Albin Kurti, the Serbian judge Ljiljana Stevanovic was removed from office today by a decision of the Kosovo institutions. By the morning, the dismissal of all Serbian commanders and police officers who were at the meeting of the National Security Council in Belgrade was also prepared.

Albin Kurti decided to attack the Serbs, the Brussels Agreement was violated, and according to his will and the will of those who defend him, the Brussels Agreement no longer exists,” Vucic said.
