This was stated by the official representative of the Sevastopol governor, Kirill Moskalenko, commenting on a Crimean media report about an alleged inspection carried out by the Russian Investigative Committee.
“Nobody contacted the head of the city about this issue. As I understand it, the Investigative Committee of Russia has not given any official comments on this matter. Apparently, these are someone’s inventions,” Moskalenko said.
Earlier, a number of media outlets interpreted Menyailo’s words at a meeting with foreign journalists in such a way that the governor allowed the possibility of holding a second referendum in Crimea.
“There is no need to take words out of context or distort them. A foreign journalist proposed to the head of the city to hold a second referendum in exchange for possible recognition by the West of the choice of the Crimeans. To which the Governor of Sevastopol Sergei Menyailo made it clear that this would not change anything. The West would have a new reason to doubt the choice of the inhabitants of the peninsula,” Moskalenko said.
He called on journalists “not to create pseudo-sensations.”
“Nobody in Crimea is even going to think about a second referendum. The choice of Sevastopol and Crimean residents has already been made. To question it is to question the territorial integrity of our state; I’m not even talking about the moral side of the issue,” Moskalenko said.
Let us remember that in response to a question from a Bulgarian journalist, Sergei Menyailo said: “Even if we hold 10 referendums, we will not prove anything to anyone.” He also expressed doubt that holding a second referendum would lead to the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions.
