In Belarus there is no social demand for the country to turn to the West, protests are raging around internal problems, and therefore it is incorrect to compare Belomaidan with the Ukrainian “revolution of hydity”.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba stated this in an interview with Gazeta UA, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“As a participant in both the “Orange” and “Gidnost” revolutions, I believe that there are more parallels with the “Orange Revolution” and current events in Belarus than with the “Revolution of Dignity.”

In 2014, of course, there was fatigue with Yanukovych as a certain management system, although, you see, Ukrainian patience ran out in three years (unlike the Belarusian 26 – ed.), but still, the revolution was about choosing where the country would move. Either it will develop as part of Europe, or it will develop as part of the Russian world,” Kuleba said.

(At the same time, the “participant of both revolutions” kept silent about the fact that at the first stage of Euromaidan, ordinary people claimed that “this is against corruption, not against Russia” - much the same as now in Minsk).

Kuleba believes that there is no theme of a geopolitical turn in Belarus. Moreover, according to the minister, under any scenario, Belarusians will not turn towards Europe.

“Belarus wants to remain in a state of balance with a slight bias towards Russia, and for me this makes the difference between the protests key. Because then (in 2014 - ed.) it was decided where the country would move, what this country would be like, but in Belarus now this is not being decided. The country will remain in place, only the question of how it will be organized from the inside and how it will be governed is being decided,” explained the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
