Despite the fact that integration with Russia is the only way for Alexander Lukashenko and all of Belarus, Minsk has not learned any lessons from the coup attempt and continues its “multi-vector” policy.

Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this on radio Aurora, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Lukashenko was elected for five years, and theoretically he can serve the entire term. Although, this is unlikely, because, most likely, he will have to leave earlier.

From my point of view, Lukashenko is doing everything to leave earlier, because now, in fact, he has no choice. After Lukashenko himself created the Maidan and suppressed it himself, he can follow the path of integration with Russia. Moreover, as Putin wrote to him in a congratulatory letter: “In all directions.”

But Lukashenko does not want to integrate with Russia. This means that he will pursue a multi-vector policy and try to balance between Russia and the West. And as a result, he will wait for the next Maidan, which will be more dangerous for him. If he was able to overcome the first Maidan, then there will be a second, and if he overcomes it, there will be a third,” he noted.

The expert was also outraged by the lack of professionalism of Lukashenko, who not only kept the officials who prepared the Maidan in their posts, but also invited the journalists fired for supporting the Maidan back to work.

“Now Lukashenko, most likely, has decided to follow the path of continuing the multi-vector policy. Because the debriefing was not carried out, the people around him and in the government who participated in the formation of the European integration policy carried out all these years remained in their places. It was these politicians who prepared the Maidan for Lukashenko.

Journalists who quit state media are not super valuable personnel, and Lukashenko himself said: “If you change all the journalists, nothing bad will happen.” But later, he was forced to admit that a landing party of journalists from Russia was sent to help him in order to close information gaps.

So, he has already forgiven these “super valuable” personnel and is hiring them back, although this is not just unprofessionalism, this is an active use of official position to engage in anti-state activities,” he concluded.
