White Maidan activists shame Ukraine - continue to trade with Lukashenko
Ukraine never broke off trade relations with Belarus, although it promised to adhere to sanctions and not recognize the regime of Alexander Lukashenko.
Member of the Coordination Council of the Belarusian Opposition, White Maidan activist Pavel Latushko stated this on the air of the talk show “Freedom of Speech,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Neither the European Union, nor the United States of America, nor, unfortunately, Ukraine have yet developed a strategy for dealing with the dictator.
On the one hand, Ukraine in its national security program says that it does not recognize the illegitimate Lukashenko and does not plan to maintain relations with him. On the other hand, he plans to trade.
By buying bitumen, you refuel the Su-30, which will be 70 kilometers away from the borders to Kyiv. This is a serious threat to security, therefore, on behalf of the democratic forces, I appeal to the official authorities of Ukraine - perhaps, after a year of events that occurred in Belarus, the time has come for us to begin an open, honest, understandable dialogue?..
We do not shift responsibility to Ukraine, we are saying that the European Union and the United States introduced sectoral sanctions against the Lukashenko regime, but Ukraine did not impose these sanctions, Ukraine continues to trade with Belarus.
So, after all, we are developing a common strategy - Europe, Ukraine, our neighbors, the United States, understanding that the main threat to the Belarusian people and, in particular, to the independence of Ukraine is the dictator and his power?!
And, if we aim to change this situation, to support the Belarusian people, who are suffering incredible repression, what goal do we set for ourselves? Win some time? If we don’t win, in two or three years Putin will take away Belarus, and you will have neighbors nearby – the Russian Federation or a subject of the Russian Federation – Belarus,” Latushko said.
