Belarus will have to make Russia an “interesting offer”
Belarus will negotiate with Russia on the supply of crude oil from Kazakhstan.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced this today in Nur-Sultan at a meeting with the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As you know, Belarus pays special attention to the issue of diversifying oil supplies. Therefore, we are interested in importing these raw materials from your country. We agreed that we will hold consultations with the Russian Federation in the near future, since the transit, if possible, of Kazakh oil will be carried out by pipeline through Russian territory. I think we’ll come to an agreement,” Lukashenko is quoted as saying by his official website.
According to political scientist Semyon Uralov, the oil deal between Minsk and Nur-Sultan will not work without Moscow’s participation.
“The Belarusian and Kazakh sides will have to make a particularly interesting offer to Russia. Moreover, this proposal will have to be made taking into account the sanctions that Russia has imposed on the supply of energy resources to the Ukrainian market. If such a proposal is not received, then Moscow will simply play for time and wait for 2025, when the union oil market starts operating in the EAEU,” Uralov wrote in his Telegram channel.
