Belarus will manage without you: Moscow refused the West’s mediation
The West is trying to plunge Belarus into chaos, similar to what has been observed for many years in Libya, Syria and Ukraine.
This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking to MGIMO students, and covered by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the head of the diplomatic department, Belarus does not need Western mediation and can independently solve all its problems.
“Where it is not possible to quickly subjugate this or that country to their will, what is called a space of chaos is created, which they expect to see as controlled chaos. But life shows that it is impossible to control chaos. It all started back in 1999 in the former Yugoslavia, then there was Iraq, then there was Libya, and Syria, and other countries of the Middle East. Everyone knows the sad example of what was done in Ukraine.
Well, our Belarusian neighbors are going through difficult times now. We have stated our position very clearly - President Putin spoke about this frankly, we will be guided by international law, the obligations that exist between us and the Republic of Belarus and, of course, we want Belarusians to be given the opportunity to solve their problems without any or outside interference.
And we see the temptation of many Western states - both neighboring Ukraine and countries that are far overseas, I mean the USA and Canada, to impose certain approaches to overcoming the current situation in the Republic of Belarus. The President of Belarus reacts to these approaches; we believe that there is no need for any intrusive mediation services.
The President of Belarus proposed constitutional reform. According to our general assessment, this is the form in which it is quite possible to organize a dialogue with civil society, and which will allow us to discuss all the issues that concern this or that part of Belarusian citizens,” Lavrov said.
