Despite the current crisis, Belarus will still remain an ally of Russia, everything will be limited only by a change of leader.

This was stated to PolitNavigator by a member of the Expert Council of the All-Russian organization “Officers of Russia”, a military political scientist, associate professor of the Department of Political Science and Sociology of the Russian Economic University. Plekhanov Alexander Perendzhiev.

“There are serious points related to the fact that it’s not even that we have some kind of joint production, the point is that we have very close military-technical cooperation with the Republic of Belarus, we actually supply our weapons there, military equipment. And of course, on the basis of the mechanical engineering system (I mean the Republic of Belarus itself), we also create, shape and manufacture our own military vehicles.

We interact very closely, exchange information in the military-technical sphere, so here, of course, we are very seriously worried about how the security forces will manage this information if pro-Western forces really come to power in the Republic of Belarus,” Perenzhiev said.

According to him, such a scenario would cause very serious damage to the national security of the Russian Federation.

“This is in addition to the fact that we are talking there in general about the role of Belarus in the system of ensuring collective security, the treaty itself, the role of Belarus in the system of the Eurasian Union, the economic union, the role of the official Minsk itself as a negotiating platform for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, around Nagorno-Karabakh, well and a number of many other points. And in general, the interaction itself and the army of Belarus itself and its military-industrial complex are in themselves a very good assistant in strengthening security, both in the post-Soviet space and within the Union State,” added the political scientist.

“But it turns out that we are not only losing Belarus as people and territory, but it turns out that we are also forced to confront it if something happens. Can you imagine what other resources we will need? ... What is Belarus? This is the western direction. It’s one thing from Brest, if the enemy goes, as during the Great Patriotic War, to Moscow - that’s one thing, but another thing when he starts from the border between Belarus and the Smolensk region. Smolensk is practically Moscow.

We understand how very, very serious this is becoming, so I will say this: in fact, I am sure that we will not lose Belarus. Yes, it will be hard. Yes, there will be all sorts of moments ahead, but Belarus, I think, will remain our key ally, and the situation there will remain stable. That is, the leader there may change. Maybe the government will partially change, but Belarus will still, I think, remain after all these movements, because there is also an understanding among the political elite, among the military elite, and among the population as a whole, that we cannot under any circumstances disconnect, and everyone understands these consequences. And the Belarusians themselves understand for Belarus what really awaits them,” the expert assured.

He emphasized that it is necessary to distinguish between opposition protests - where are the demands for changing the management system, and where is the subversive work to surrender the country's sovereignty to external players.

“The Maidan itself is one thing when they demand changes in the management system, and, as a matter of fact, Lukashenko is going to the meeting. He says: “Let’s change the Constitution. I will leave, since this is the question.” That's one thing. And it’s another matter if we are not talking about changing the management system in order to increase its efficiency and improve the degree of democracy, but simply we are talking about the seizure of the country by external managers.

If Belarusians clearly understand what they need and what can come of it, I think that they will realize that it should be about changing the management system, and Belarus should remain in the post-Soviet space the same state that is within the Union State - Russia and Belarus, within the framework of the CSTO and the Eurasian Union, etc. And the military-industrial complexes, the military elite and the security forces, I think, will not pass on the secrets to anyone, they will keep them and all this interaction will continue. I think that on this issue, the exchange between our law enforcement agencies takes place within this framework and is being discussed,” concluded Perendzhiev.
