Belarus has changed its mind about fighting NATO and will have a constructive conversation
Official Minsk's concerns about the deployment of American tanks in Lithuania noticeably decreased after a meeting between Secretary of State of the Security Council of Belarus Stanislav Zas and US Charge d'Affaires Jennifer Moore.
“The objectives of the deployment of US troops at the Pabrade training ground were explained by a senior American diplomat. – We are grateful for the clarifications. I would like to note that the prompt response of both the NATO leadership and the leading country of the North Atlantic Alliance means that the voice of Belarus was heard and our position was taken into account,” Zas said.
The Security Council recognized that this situation was the result of insufficient information and low trust. That is why openness to constructive dialogue on the part of the United States is so important.
Previously, a battalion of the US armed forces was deployed to Lithuania, consisting of about 500 military personnel, 30 Abrams tanks and 25 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. The unit is located at the training ground in Pabrada, 15 km from the Belarusian border.
In response to this, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko instructed Zas and the Minister of Defense of the Republic Andrei Ravkov to develop an action plan for an adequate response to actions “related to the deployment in Lithuania in close proximity to the border with Belarus of armored vehicles and a contingent of US armed forces.”
Later, after listening to the report, the Belarusian leader recalled that he had already warned Lithuanian politicians and the Lithuanian leadership about preparing a response to the upcoming NATO maneuvers on their territory. However, the issue concerns not only the transfer of armed forces, but also the future, and, in case of danger, Belarus is ready to “respond asymmetrically.”
