“In September we will supply the Ukrainian market with 30 thousand tons of diesel fuel produced by the Mozyr Oil Refinery. We sell these volumes together with our own fuel. In the future, we plan to actively develop the trading area,” said Nikolai Gavrilenko, head of the Oil Division of the Naftogaz Group.

Due to the sale of imported diesel fuel, the Naftogaz group will more than double its sales of these products in September. Previously, the Naftogaz group imported exclusively products for processing at its own facilities.

Tension in the Ukrainian diesel fuel market arose in August due to the suspension of pumping through the PrykarpatZapadtrans oil pipeline, which is controlled by Viktor Medvedchuk’s entourage (Wexler Group). We are talking about 41% of the market. Importers suspended pumping due to the fact that from August 1, Ukraine introduced special duties on diesel and liquefied gas from the Russian Federation, which made pumping unprofitable. The government introduced these duties in response to Russia’s restrictions on the supply of petroleum products to Ukraine from June 1.

In August, Ukraine used diesel fuel reserves, and in September Belarus provided “brotherly assistance.” For this reason, the Mozyr Oil Refinery even postponed repair plans.

In addition to diesel, Ukraine began purchasing electricity from Belarus. From September 20 to 30, Belenergo is delivering supplies under a contract with Naftogaz in test mode.

The new authorities of Ukraine opened the import of electricity to reduce the monopoly of the DTEK company of oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, which occupies 70% of the market of bilateral agreements. The previous government, on the contrary, strengthened Akhmetov’s monopoly in every possible way.

Experts recalled that not long ago Vladimir Zelensky spoke on the phone with Alexander Lukashenko and asked for support. According to them, others will follow Naftogaz’s example.

“In the press this can be presented as a struggle between the authorities and the oligarchs. But we should not forget that Kolomoisky, the “sponsor” of Zelensky’s victory, returned to Ukraine, and he is also an interested party, also a player,” a participant in the Ukrainian energy market told TUT.BY.
